The purpose of the SAC is to provide ERAfrica with independent, high-level and strategic advice on its efforts to advance science and technology cooperation between Europe and Africa and to support ERAfrica in achieving its objectives.
The purpose of the SAC is to provide ERAfrica with independent, high-level and strategic advice on its efforts to advance science and technology cooperation between Europe and Africa and to support ERAfrica in achieving its objectives. It provides scientific advice and analysis on ERAfrica activities, and supervision during the implementation and evaluation of the joint activities. The SAC will act in an advisory capacity to the Strategic Management
Board (SMB) and the Project Technical Committee and reports directly to the SMB. It is composed of eight elected members and the chair will be elected during the first meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board.
SAC members are:
Ms. Sanaa Botros (Egypt) is professor of pharmacology at the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute in Giza, and a very active member of the African Network for Drugs/Diagnostics Innovation (ANDI).
Ms. Esther Kahangi (Kenya) is Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Production and Extension at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Her expertise is in horticultural plant biotechnology and breeding.
Ms. Erika Kraemer-Mbula (Equatorial Guinea) works as researcher and consultant at the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation at the Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa.
Mr. Pascual Mocumbi (Mozambique) studied medicine in Lausanne. He is the High Representative of the Europe and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) that aims to accelerate the development of new drugs and vaccines against HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. He is a former Prime Minister of Mozambique (1994 to 2004).
Ms. Ana Morgado (Portugal) is Director of the Natural Sciences Department and Head of the Geoinformation for Development Centre at the Tropical Research Institute. She has played a leading role in the Joint Expert Group meetings of the 8th Africa-Europe partnership (now led by Portugal).
Ms. Anne-Lucie Wack (France) is Director of Agropolis Fondation, the French scientific foundation for agricultural sciencesand sustainable development created to enhance international research collaborations in the field of agriculture, food and the environment. Her expertise is in food technology.
Mr. John Wood (UK), Secretary-General of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is also Chair of the European Research Area Board and the most senior advisor to the European Commissioner for research, Innovation and Science. His expertise is in material science and engineering.
Mr. Jakob Zinsstag (Switzerland) leads a research group at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) in Basel on the interface of human and animal health since 1998. From 1994 to 1998 he was the Director of the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire, Abidjan.
